Task: Create an instrument with a printed circuit board
Faculty: David Gauthier, Hannah Perner-Wilson
The purpose of this one day introductory task was to get in touch with electronic materials and experiment with their characteristics. Base for the instrumental part was hacking a mini plastic piano toy, to first understand how the circuit works to then solder wires on it to extend the connection for reuse in a way.
The coiled copper thread at the bottom of the cup connected to the magnet serve as a speaker. The thread is connected to the PCB`s (printed circuit board) plus and minus pole and transfers the played tones through its vibration. The wires which extend the connections to the tones lead to copper tapes that run around the cup.
To allow the user to play tones of his/her choice, the user needs to close the circuit by connecting the copper tape with his/her finger that has copper tape on it.
